NATSIEC is a member of the National Coalition of Peaks.

The Coalition of Peaks is a representative body of around fifty Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled peak organisations and members.

The Coalition of Peaks have worked for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities for a long time and have come together as an act of self-determination to be formal partners with Australian governments to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in share in decision-making in Closing the Gap at national, state and regional levels to improve the life outcomes of our people.

The central pillars of the Closing the Gap Agreement are four Priority Reforms:

  1. Formal partnerships and shared decision-making;
  2. Building the community-controlled sector;
  3. Transforming government organisations;
  4. Shared access to data and information at a regional level.

NATSIEC will advocate for the Priority Reforms to be embedded into Federal and State agreements as part of National Schools Reform Agreements to be ratified in 2024.

A Closing the Gap Education Policy Partnership Agreement is currently under development , leading to an improved joined-up approach between all governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives.
